History of Pole Dancing

How and where pole dancing started is not too clear. We have been told variously that it has its origins in the Arabian Dance of the Seven Veils or an African fertility dance dance around the support pole of a hut. Either of these stories is possible – because what they both have in common is the use of a pole for a dance designed to demonstrate allure and eroticism. In more recent history the pole dance has most definitely come from night clubs and strip joints. How it made the transition from there into the gyms and homes of main street is via multiple routes helped along by a bit of Hollywood glamour with the 1995 movie Show Girls. Pole Dancing  is so mainstream now that there is even a campaign to get it included as an Olympic sport!

With the recent rise and rise of burlesque then Pole Dancing is set to climb to even higher levels of popularity and reach new audiences.

Pole Dancing now inhabits the areas sport and sex equally. Which is why it is so well suited to home use. An adaptable, moveable pole dancing pole can serve each purpose equally. X Pole

It is now just over five years since X Pole ripped up and rewrote the design book of pole dancing equipment.  X Pole recognised that pole-dancing was leaving the strip clubs and entering the mainstream of society as an acknowledged dance form and effective exercise genre. The poles used inside clubs could be permanently fixed to floor and ceiling and were cut to size from a single length of steel tubing. The early attempts to replicate this in a sectional format failed. The portable poles were great for dancing around – but not dancing on. They were definitely stripper poles and not dancing poles. As customers began trying more advanced and high energy dance moves on their home dancing poles, it was no longer acceptable to have a flimsy stripper pole – dancing poles were now required to be high class pieces of sporting equipment.

With a few simple but elegantly original design concepts they have taken poledancing spinning upwards towards its zenith. X-Pole’s key to success is that they have innovated rather than accept the status quo.
